There is a wide range of available options for the treatment of hyperhidrosis. Many people, including myself, with hyperhidrosis may avoid pursuing medical treatment because of embarrassment or a false belief that nothing can be done about the condition. So I am here to share my alternative ways to fight this annoying sweat.

Lifestyle Changes! Yes, that's what I did! This doesn't mean you are require to eat, drink, or apply anything – they are simple lifestyle changes you can make to help reduce the chance for odor-causing bacteria to win the day. Start by daily shower of course! And wait between showering, drying, and dressing to help make sure your body and any sweat-prone areas are totally dry before you cover them with clothes. And most importantly, stop smoking!

        Hi Nancy,

I did everything you said but I am still sweating profusely. I have hyperhidrosis since I was 15, I am now 22 and I wanted to get this sweat away! It really affects my life specially my career. Is there any other treatment, I mean, low cost treatment that you can recommend?

        Regards,
        Trish

You must first know what triggers your hyperhidrosis so you can control it.

Normally, your sweat glands produce perspiration that’s carried to the skin’s surface for different reasons: when the air temperature rises, you have a fever, you’re exercising, or feeling anxious, nervous, or under stress. Even when your body is overheated, when you’re moving around, when you’re feeling emotional, or as a result of hormones, then nerves activate the sweat glands. When those nerves that activate the sweat glands overreact, it causes hyperhidrosis. When you know what triggers it, then you can avoid it.

It is true that lifestyle changes can make you controlled over excessive sweating. But it is also important to know what needs to be change in your lifestyle.

        Hi Jennifer,

I understand what you were trying to say about the lifestyle changes in managing hyperhidrosis. Having excessive sweating too, I am trying to change my lifestyle, from exercising regularly to doing a balanced diet. However, I still sweat profusely. My exercise is zumba every other day. I drink lots of water everyday to keep my body cool. I am thinking of visiting a specialist, I am just not sure if this is the right time. How would you know if it's about time to consult a doctor? Given the pandemic it is really hard to book an appointment.

        Please advise.

        -Astrid
