I wanted to do homemade Iontophoresis treatment. Is it okay to exceed the recommended treatment time?

        Aubrey,

There is no major risk. In fact it is, on occasions, advantageous to increase the treatment time. 20 minutes of treatment time is the average guide for treatment of the hands and it is recommend that you do this initially.

Cath is right. Treat for 20 minutes a session every two to three days or for ten minutes three to five times a week.
        Good luck!

        Aubrey,
For the first few treatments, the time of iontophoresis should be limited to twenty minutes. If necessary, and if the patient tolerates it well, twenty-five to thirty minutes can be used. If the time is too long or the current too great for a particular patient, then it is possible to produce some blistering at the waterline.
Treatments should be repeated three or more times weekly. Until a definite reduction in sweating becomes apparent. This may begin after two or three treatments or may take ten or more treatments. Most patients notice first that a stronger stimulus is needed to start the sweating. After a few more treatments, they notice that still stronger stimuli are required and that the amount of sweating is less after it has been initiated.
        Goodluck

The recommended treatment time for Iontophoresis is 15 minutes. However, if you are finding results difficult to achieve then you can increase the treatment times accordingly. Your skin will be the one to decide in how long, as too much can cause the surface of the skin to become sore and irritated. If irritation happens then you need to reduce treatment times. Once you know what your maximum comfortable level is you will seldom need to change or alter the current. I am using Hidrex machine for the treatment. It has a safety feature that prevents incorrect settings being administered to patients.
